"Brilliant! The night safari boat
cruise was so exciting, all of us wanted to be the first to spot the red eyes of
the crocodile,
and the Aboriginal guides knew so much about Kakadu, we can't
wait to get back and stay longer!"

"It's fantastic! My family
spending a night with an Aboriginal family sharing their culture was a unique

"In a time when knowledge of culture, habitats and
wildlife is becoming more important and necessary, it is imperative that local
people have the opportunity to to share their history, their experiences and
their lifestyle. Thanks for the opportunity to experience a great
tour."
Russ Guehro,

"The
night boat cruise is amazing. Apart from the wildlife, with total
darkness the night sky is awesome, the stars were jumping out at me,
and I saw my first satellite ever! I started out a bit nervous, but the
guides were fantastic; I wanted to stay out on the water all night!
I've travelled the world, but this boat cruise does not compare to
anything I've ever done before!"
K.Taylor, New York
USA
"We
certainly didn't leave feeling hungry!, the barramundi cooked on the
coals was superb, and while I'm not big on meat, the camp oven buffalo
was sensational. We'll come back for the food alone!"
S&J King, Singapore
"You won't get the true Australian experience of
Australian culture anywhere else. The Kakadu Culture Camp is truly wonderful,
the people warm and generous. Lot's of fun and very educational. We're coming
back!"

"Terrific guided
bushtucker walk. The Aboriginal ladies have so much knowledge about their
environment. I couldn't believe how many fruits are eaten, and how the bush
provides for a whole range of different traditional uses. I loved the paperbark
bush herbs!" J.Johnson,
London UK
"A wonderful
stay - very relaxed, informal and great food. Thanks Andy, Jen & Catherine for a brilliant
experience!"
Sean, Anna, Lara & Talya de

We got there by accident. When we booked months ago Jan and I had thought that we were booking into a comfortable hotel - grass lawns, air conditioning - the five star treatment. The others on the tour were dropped off at a place that fitted our fantasy and promised to adjourn immediately to the bar. We, on the other hand as our tour guide advised, were destined for the Kakadu Culture Camp. What had we done wrong? Well at least we could sign out at the hotel for a six pack and drown our sorrows in accommodation that we suspected did not even rate one star.
With gloom in our hearts and the
six pack under my wing we arrived at the camp and were shown to our tent by
Andy.
Home was a board floor and canvass construction that brought back bad
memories of early marriage living in a tent with a one month old child because
there was no other accommodation in the town. No wonder we had since opted for
as many star ratings as possible! "Well at least the bed is comfortable,"
said Pollyanna. Now what do we do for the next five hours until
dinner? We had knocked
back a night boat cruise to get up close and uncomfortable with the crocs. We
had been cruised out for the day.
"The women and kids are down the road fishing," said Andy. "Just don't give the crocs too much encouragement by going too close to the waters edge." No hope of that. Down at the creek Jenny and Del were landing bait that they would later use to catch large catfish. The four year olds, Jesse and Catherine, took us in hand, pointing out that we needed to take notice of the Beware of Crocodiles sign, though they didn't seem to pay much heed.
After they had given us our first lessons in bushcraft and fishing, the four years olds grabbed our hands and marched us back to the camp. Freddie, Jessie's dad, had caught a big barra and was about to clean it. Nothing was wasted, gills, guts and skeleton. Later to be cooked over the traditional camp fire. Now here was a five star experience and taste. Freddie explained and demonstrated the processes in traditional cooking and shared the stuff that white fellas tend to throw in the bin. Exquisite. There is no better fish taste.
For a night we became part of the family, sitting in the open in semi dark to avoid insects and swapping yarns. What a privilege. What an experience. And yes, we did demolish the six pack and a couple of Andy's as well. After all, it was his birthday!
I don't know how the mistake was made in the booking,
whether we made it or the agent did that. Perhaps he was psychic.
It was one
of the greatest experiences we have ever had while travelling. Five star people
in a five star environment.
Thank you family for those treasured
hours.
